Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a modern, gentle, non-intrusive complementary therapy with its roots in Chinese medicine, acupuncture and more contemporary treatments such as kinesiology and psychology.

EFT does not involve the use of needles but involves you tapping with your fingertips on acupuncture points on your body, while focussing on the area you want to heal. Before you start to tap you will be assisted by the practitioner to formulate some statements or affirmations to concentrate your thoughts.

This technique was developed by Gary Craig in 1990 and has shown positive results in developing attitude and behavior, resolving personal problems, decreasing the effects of stress, and restoring a sense of life balance.

EFT tapping can release and relieve negative emotions, gently and easily.

EFT is based on the premise that emotional trauma contributes to disease. At times we are affected by relationship issues, traumas, stress or losses. To EFT practitioners, negative emotions appear to block the flow of energy in our system and thus affect on our health.

Research studies have shown that EFT is often able to rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. Once the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself, and healing can take place.

You can apply EFT to just about everything. If you have a problem or life experience which you would rather not discuss with anyone, you can still use the tapping technique. The practitioner can take you through the tapping process without needing to know what the experience is.

The practitioner may recommend that you continue tapping between sessions and if so, will provide you with instructions and advice. If it suitable for you, you may be able to maintain contact via Skype between or after sessions.

It is important that you let your medical practitioner know that you are embarking on EFT and you will be encouraged to discuss any effects with your doctor. It is essential that you seek medical advice for illness, depression or addictions and not be deterred from doing so because you are considering EFT as an alternative. EFT does not work for everyone.
